About 12designerWow, 2012, what a year....
As 2012 comes to an end, we look back on a year full of positive surprises. Needless to say at the beginning of the year we had absolutely no idea of the exciting times we had ahead of us!
Having welcomed a ton of new customers and lots of great talent from all over Europe, we have found that a great deal of our designers have managed business relationships on the platform that have carried out into the “real world” - with all of these things considered this has established us as one of the most important crowdsourced design sites in Europe.
So – we'd like to start this round up off by thanking you, to each and everyone of you for all your support throughout the year!

In the first weekend of December 99designs and 12designer are headed to Hamburg to get our hands dirty with the Startup Live crew; where they will spend the 7 - 9 of December working to cultivate, nurture and LAUNCH the next big thing in the Startup world!
To get a better understanding of how Startup Live works, and what you can all expect from 3 days of intense entrepreneur activities, we caught up with Philipp Baumgaertel (Business Development Manager at STARTeurope) to get all the gritty details!
1) Philipp, you organize the Startup Live in Hamburg from the 07th until the 9th of December. Tell us a bit about the event and why you decided to get involved?
Startup Live gives people the opportunity to choose a whole different career path. It’s a real alternative to joining a company or even a startup itself. People have so many ideas and we want to support them in making them real. Being an entrepreneur is a lifestyle and only a few people know what it’s like – but it’s actually not hard to start being one. The hard part comes later, continuing to be profitable and motivated when shit hits the fan. But as I said – in the beginning, the very, very early stage, you set your goal to become one. This is where we support and put in our energy!
2) How is the event structured? What should the founders/ participants learn from the event and what actually happens there?
People can pitch their idea in front of the audience in 90 seconds and then can find team members of other skillsets to realize the idea. During the three days there are mentors that are experienced and help you with the execution or prototyping. On the last day the results are presented to a board of investors like Tim Weickert (Bigpoint CTO) or Paul Jozefak (Liquid Labs CEO).
12 GOLDEN RULES FOR 12DESIGNERS
As we come into winter at 12designer, we have been brain-storming ways to stay warm... Which is quite the task when located in the frigid city of Berlin – where the weather temperature is rapidly dropping from a mild 20’C to a frosty 4’C, all within 10 short days. It must to be noted, I’m Australian – our winter is about as harsh as 12’C, standard.
In an effort to stay mentally active (read: warm!) – we decided to flex our thinking muscles and come up with the 12 Golden Rules for 12designer Designers.
With that said, listen up lovelies! As we really only want to lay it out once.

So – you’ve all heard the news by now, 12designer joined 99designs – the world’s largest Creative Crowdsourcing platform! And if that wasn’t enough – we decided to celebrate with a special design contest, which required your help!
The aim was to design a poster that would hang in all three offices around the world, allowing for the global employees at 99designs to feel connected – through great distance and enormous growth. And a VAST majority of you took to the challenge!
Our poster design contest launched, the community submitted tons of great designs, and we were mostly overwhelmed for choice! In the end our international team (composed of Eva, Giulia, Lucy, Mercedes and Nadine) managed to get it down to a top 12. Then a top 5.. And now? Well now – we have settled upon a winner!!
We are super excited, and thrilled to introduce you to Mathieu AKA Wayne, our winning designer. Instead of me continuing this waffle – we thought it would be ideal to hear from the great man himself. So we interviewed your mate, Matthieu.
Introducing your new mate, Lucy
As September rings in the change of seasons around the globe – it also operates at 12designer to welcome a new member to the team.
That new member would be me. My name is Lucy, I’m a few years shy of 30 and I’m originally from Australia.

Hey creative crowd!
Just a few days ago we announced the great news that we’re now part of the 99designs family.
To celebrate this with you, we launched a poster design contest and have already received a lot of amazing proposals. We’re thrilled to see how many good ideas you have to help get us connected!
We want you to help connect us (12designer and 99designs) across the globe by designing a poster to hang in our offices in Melbourne, San Francisco and Berlin. There’s great excitement in our offices about being part of a worldwide company that provides good design via crowdsourcing.
